December

We have started to learn our Christmas Program! The class sits in front on Christmas Eve and participates in the entire service.
Can you guess our new coin?
"Found a ______, found a _________, found a ________ just now.
It is round and fat and silver found a ________ just now.
I see Jefferson. I see Jefferson, our 3rd President.
On the back is Monticello.
One _______ is worth five cents."
Our new letter is I. Think short i like in, invisible, incredible NOT long i like ice and Ivan.

Elections!

Next week our afternoons will be centered around "Duck for President." Will Duck win the farm election? We will also be voting in the 5th and 6th grade election.

Last week we went to Aurora Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn. Thank you to all of our drivers. Dr. Matthew talked to us about taking care of our teeth. A nurse talked to us about being healthy and active. We had a chance to try out different equipment used for mobility. We also watched a play. "You never win if you let a stranger in."

Apple Barn and Apple Annie

We finished letter a! Ask your child to sing either Apple Annie or "Apple, Apple, /a/ /a/ /a/"
Our afternoon focused on questions and riddles. We counted 249 seeds out of one pumpkin. Who would have guessed? We were way off in our estimations. We also made a graph. Do worms eat pumpkin guts? Time will give us our answer.
If you carve a pumpkin this year count the seeds with your child. The slippery slimey seeds give great sensory reinforcement of one to one counting. I would suggest having your child split them into groups of 10 or 20 and then you help count by 10's.
On Friday we sing in Mrs. Toth's room. A favorite is one I try to keep in mind all week. The first verse says: "I laugh because I'm happy, I laugh because I'm free. I laugh because I've got the love of Jesus inside me."

A New School Year!

Wow! It is almost August. Hopefully everyone has received the school letter. You may have noticed that I will be purchasing the supplies for this year. I have set a flat fee that will be payed on registration night. A few things will still need to be supplied by you. Please send your child with a book bag, gym shoes, and a change of clothes. I require ALL kindergarten students to have a change of clothes. We tend to have many milk spills over the year and no one wants to smell like rotten milk! If you have any questions please call me or send me an email.

Wacky Weather

Perhaps some wishful thinking was involved but we have been learning all about weather. The highlight of our study was getting a chance to be meteorologists. Ask us to give you a weather update sometime...we have real talent in our class.

"These things are fun and fun is good"

We made rhymes all the time this week in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. Our center activities included rolling rhymes, making a math necklace, writing about our favorite book, reading to a friend and stamping.

Happy Valentine's Day! We graphed conversation hearts, found hidden hearts, talked about Jesus as our best Valentine, listed ways God loves us, wrote a note to our Valentine and made love bugs. Thank you for the donations of snacks and supplies.

Igloos and the Orient

We have been busy collecting milk jugs to create an igloo for our room. It is nearly complete. It bares a few battle scars from crashes but it's holding its own.

We have also been learning about China and penguins.

Igloo

We would like to create an igloo for our classroom. It will take approximately 155 gallon milk jugs to create. The jugs MUST be thoroughly washed out with soap and water and dried. With your help we can accomplish this big task. I'm already collecting jugs. Thanks for your help.

H is for hats

This week we are exploring hats and the letter Hh. The kids have been working really hard on our latest class book What do You do With a Hat Like This? When the book is finished it will be sent home for you to see. Don't forget Friday is hat day.
I have one last small tidbit. This morning we were talking about the strange weather we've been having. One of the girls summed it up best: "The best part is God kept everyone safe!"
