November

This week our afternoon theme is "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." One of the centers is making a weather map for Wisconsin. There is a math game that counts raining food and sunshine.
We also listened to Miss Naumann's favorite book "The Giant Jam Sandwich." How would you get rid of 10,000 wasps. The town of Itchingdown was very creative.
Last week was Miss Nottling's birthday. The class gave Miss Nottling her own set of Boomwhackers, shown in the picture. She used these in music to help with the beat, high and low pitch and scales.
The other photo shows a math lesson using
fish.

Fire Safety

I'll take a break from eating my bon-bons to update you all. This week we learned about fire safety. On Monday we will visit the East Troy Fire Department. They are all volunteers and have been for over 100 years! We have 4 extra booster seats so those who take the bus can leave your booster at home.
Rest up! We'll see you on Monday.

Don't Let the Pigeon Use the Smartboard

This week Miss Nottling read her favorite book series by Mo Willems to the class. Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late was one of our favorites. If you are in school look outside of the room for a new class book and our pigeons.
On Thursday we 'flew' to Canaan with the help of Google Earth and the Smartboard. The class discussed the lack of plants in the area. But, Abraham was still thankful for all of his blessings!

We just finished our Unit on God's Wonderful World. We read a book about worms and met Herman the worm. Next week Miss Naumann is bringing in the class rooms. did you know they love banana peels and tea bags?
In the picture we're wearing our glasses while looking for shapes. The bottom picture shows the Bendaroo alphabet.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom...Welcome to the K Room!

We are into our second week! This week our letter is M. Miss Nottling, our student teacher arrived on Monday. In the afternoons we worked on "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" centers. In the pictures you can see Sheldon our reading turtle. We also used computers, put together alphabet puzzles, graphed Alphabits cereal and made a class book.
In the Smartboard picture you can see a math lesson. The class had to park their car in the correct numbered parking space.

Counting Down...

We have two weeks left? Crazy! A note will be coming home soon about 1st grade skills. If you are looking for ideas to keep your new first grader busy I have a few websites with great games.
My favorite site is www.kidscount1234.com Check out the Math Centers and Games section on the left. We have played some of the games but not all. Frequently these games are chosen over all of the toys in our room.
These websites have been recommended to me also:
www.softschools.com
wwww.starfall.com
www.funbrain.com
The class will bring home a few books. We have been writing in the blue Morning Message books every Tuesday since September! Check out our progress. They will also bring home a few other Starfall books. Please make use of these books. The class loves working in them. I might keep one the car to use as a distraction when waiting to eat or at a game.
Finally, our class pictures on Shutterfly can be ordered and picked up at Target, shipped to your home or printed at home. I can only guarantee they will be available until September. After then I will be posting my new class's pictures. If you want the pictures visit the class site and order before September arrives and the memories are deleted!

Take Me Out to the Ballgame...

It's baseball season! We put jerseys in number order. We designed our own jersey and wrote our last name. Our heads graced the top of a personal bobble head. We even had time to play Brew Crew Rhyme Time to practice rhyming and Baseball Bingo to practice letter identification. We've also been up to a top secret plan for Mother's/Father's Day, but I'm not telling. Remember to wear your blue and yellow on Thursday!

Rain, Rain Go Away!

March is the perfect month to learn about weather. In that past month we've had golden sunshine and 70 degrees, 30 degree snowstorms, and lots of rain.
We had six weather related centers. One of the centers allowed us to create a weather map. The bottom picture shows a weather map being created using PowerPoint. April is a great month for kite flying. We decorated our own kites. The top picture shows an example of a meteorologist in action.
Miss Naumann read one of her favorite books Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. What food would you want to fall from the sky?

SMART

We have been sneaking into Mrs. Holm's room to use the SMART board. If you are unfamiliar, it is like a giant touch screen computer. So far we've used it to practice counting money, buying items, reading number words and many other things. We really like learning with new technology.

Think Green!!!

Tim the Trashman came to St. Paul's to teach us about being GREEN. We heard about using reusable containers for lunch. Tim also did a few magic tricks. It was a wonderful reminder to take care of the earth which is a gift from God!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

This week we made family crests. We sorted sheep like they do in Ireland. We sorted gold equally between two leprechauns. We used a Lite Brite to improve hand control. But, the most scrumptious part was graphing Lucky Charms.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

We used shaving cream to make fuzzy sheep. Our lions were made with watercolors that we squeezed onto coffee filters. A Rhyme Mat helped us practice rhymes.

Dr. Seuss

Did you know Dr. Seuss was born on March second? To celebrate we counted rainbow fish like the book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. We rolled picture dice to see if we could make a matching pair. A Cat in the Hat necklace was made. Using big stamps we matched rhymes. We wrote about our favorite Seuss book. We even made a class book Green Eggs and Spam: An Adventure in -am.
A few weeks ago the Kindergarten class recieved a projector to use in our room. We have used it to write a book, do math, watch a NASA shuttle blast off, play space games and we just explored the world of Seuss. The website: www.seussville.com has many educational games. We played "Fox in Socks" and "Sam I Am Says."
We will have so much more fun when our rhyme bags arrive!

100 Day!!!

100, it's a big number especially when you count one by one. We did a lot of counting. We also counted by 5's and 10's. We found 99 hidden Kisses (number 6 is in the Library still.) We drew ourselves at 106 years old. We said 100 memory treasures. We stamped 100 stamps. But, probably our favorite activity was putting together a puzzle of over 100 pieces. It was a picture of the class!
Each of the 100 days was a great blessing.

Star Words

Thanks for all of the donations for 100 day. We will have so much fun counting on Monday. In the photos above we are looking for star sight words on the ceiling using flashlights. We then wrote the words we read on black paper with white crayons.
